Yao Lu Joins IYMC as a Judge
I am honored to be invited as a judge for the International Youth Music Competition (IYMC). As a performer and advocate for traditional Chinese instruments, this opportunity not only recognizes my personal journey but also highlights the growing presence of Chinese music in the U.S.

In recent years, traditional Chinese instruments, such as the guzheng and bamboo flute, have gained popularity in America, with more students taking an interest in learning them. I believe competitions and performances are wonderful opportunities for students to showcase their progress and, more importantly, to understand the significance of performing arts. By participating in international competitions, they can broaden their horizons, build confidence, and engage with musicians from around the globe.
Competitions also pave the way for their future musical journeys. Whether it's applying to music schools, earning scholarships, or joining professional ensembles, competition results can be a valuable asset. Furthermore, competitions provide a platform for young musicians to challenge themselves and push their boundaries.
I look forward to seeing more talented Chinese instrument players in these competitions and hope to offer guidance and support through my role as a judge. Together, we can continue to promote Chinese music and share its beauty and depth with a wider audience.
